Having an Australian passport can be quite beneficial for travel lovers. Australian passport holders are allowed to travel to 157 countries without having to previously apply for a visa of any type. China is, however, a slightly more different case.
Australian passport holders don’t need a visa to visit Hong Kong or Taiwan, but they do need one in case they want to visit China.
If you are an Australian passport holder, you can choose to apply for an eVisa which will help you forgo the frustrating visa process and do without the commuting or papers normally required for a visa.
Australian citizens are given several types of visas, but the most used and commonly issued tourist visa allows a 15-day stay. However, it is required by the Chinese government for all applicants to be travelling with at least one other person in order to obtain this visa.
If you are an Australian passport holder and travel with someone to China, you will need the following documents in order to get the visa:
- A valid passport, your passport must have at least six more months of validity left from the time of your return trip
- A passport scan, you’ll only need the information page of your passport
- A recent colour passport photo, make sure it was taken in the last six months and meets the photo requirements
- Return airline ticket
- A copy of the Chinese hotel reservation/invitation letter from your Chinese host
- A credit or debit card, PayPal Account to pay for your visa online
- A valid postal address
It usually takes up to 10 business days to process Australian visa applications. You’ll need to take into account the time it takes to post and receive your documents. Alternatively, you can have your application processed in five business days at iVisa.com, without having to post any documents.
As an Australian passport holder, you’ll need to print your completed application form and post it to the Chinese Visa Application Service Center along with your passport and the required additional documents. If you would prefer not to send your documents by post, you can arrange to apply in person at the centre, but you should fill out all the forms beforehand. You should apply for your visa at least two weeks in advance, if possible.
You can make your application process much simpler by heading to iVisa.com, the only visa service that can obtain your Chinese visa without you having to post any documents. In order to apply for eVisa, you’ll need to fill out a simple application form, send a digital photocopy of your passport and wait five business days for your visa to arrive. If you choose this option, you’ll receive your visa by e-mail.
